As you stroll along, you'll find the terrain to be quite smooth and easy to walk around, even for the elderly, this place is pretty ok to explore.
In contrast, a walk through Tegallalang rice terraces it's not always a smooth ride. Depending on recent weather conditions, you might encounter some mud along the way, especially after rainfall.
We can definitely confirm that after heavy rainfall that place is pretty flooded and also since the mud is moved around, it is the perfect place for snakes to go on mice hunt and to find a new nest.
As we were strolling through the steep steps of the terrace just casually a freaking king cobra crossed in front of us on our next step. Taking an amazing picture is lovely but be really cautious to go in between the weeds and in the muddy areas, no joke!
The slopes from each level of the terra can bring their own challenge as you have to border the terrace up and down to get to each trail. Trust us, when the sun hits strong this can be pretty challenging.
But don't worry – even though it might demand more from you physically, the experience is well worth it. Tegallalang's rustic charm will leave you awestruck!
Jatiluwih Terraces is very cyclist friendly due to its flat path. Our recommendation is precisely this, to discover each corner of the terraces on two wheels, an amazing experience! If you don’t carry around your own bike, no problem! You can rent an electric bike right there for so little money and that way you can explore them at your own pace.
On the flip side, Tegallalang offers a different experience when it comes to biking. While the terraces boast a rugged and traditional charm, the ground here isn't exactly bike-friendly.
The landscape's unique steepness and natural characteristics make it a bit challenging for cycling, rather it is made for walking. These terraces themselves offer an incredible hike that promises awe-inspiring views of Bali's raw beauty.
Getting to Jatiluwih:
To reach the fascinating Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, your journey will often involve a taxi or a private driver, especially if you are not staying nearby.
While Jatiluwih is a bit more remote, this scenic drive through Bali's landscapes adds an extra layer of adventure to your excursion.
If you happen to be staying in Ubud or other popular tourist spots, think about putting together a one-day tour plan that includes a visit to Jatiluwih. This way, you can make the most of your time and fully soak in the Bali experience.
Getting to Tegallalang:
Tegallalang Rice Terraces offer a more accessible option, especially if you are staying in Ubud. If you happen to have your own scooter, you can easily drive around a 10km journey from Ubud to Tegallalang in about 20 minutes.
The catch here is the parking prices, of course, they come at a premium, and they only accept cash, so it is handy if you have some coins in hand!
We totally recommend you hire a scooter, as they are the cheapest option to move around the island. The prices are around $6 USD on average per day. Relatively inexpensive!
